CIS 299 - Internships
These are not traditional classes, but give the students professional experience in a particular field within CIS.
· Web Site Development | · Networking Support |
· Social Media Marketing | · Application Support |
These are paid internships, covering at least the cost of the course to the student. Depending on the specific job, an hourly/job rate might have to be negotiated in advance.
The availability of the class depends on the economic condition of the community. When one opens up, a student is selected by the faculty, and one instructor is assigned a liaison role between the business (client) and the student.
For each job, Objectives are identified. The instructor stays in regular contact with the student and the client, and the business site is visited (by the instructor) at least twice during the semester. These on-site visits are to make sure:
- The Objectives are being met as close to on-time as possible
- The business is satisfied with the work being done
- The student is fitting in well
At the end of the semester, some paperwork is finished and the student receives credit hours for the class.
