This course is part of our Web Certificate, and is designed, along with CIS 190 and 310, to prepare you for the CIW Associate Certification Exam.
The class looks at the Internet and the Web (they are not the same thing) in different ways.
- We look at what goes on “behind the scenes” in terms of hardware, who the big companies are, what they do, and how this thing called the Internet is built.
- We look at many sites -- take Search Engines, for example. People are always surprised that there are many specialized search engines that give you much better results than Google.
- We check out portals, and what goes on when you “customize” settings. We see how Web Sites are constructed differently if your audience is a business as compared to a retail outlet or a government site.
- We look at Social Networking sites, and how public your information is without you changing any settings.
Lastly we look at security and a number of things everyone should do to protect themselves.
